Just a reflection... (wedding related stuff to come soon!!!)
Best friends are an amazing thing. You can, after a year of not seeing each other & talking infrequently, pick things up like no time has passed whatsoever. You can laugh at all the same jokes, use code words that you developed as 13 year olds, speak in half sentences, because you know each other so well – you know where the other is coming from, you’ve been thru so much together. It’s an awesome thing!
Even though life has led us down such different paths: me, a ‘country bumpkin,’ living in upstate NY (as my former nail technician says: “is that near the Bronx?”) working as an engineer for about 5 years now, about to get married, lives in a house with a dog and two cats, excited about having babies someday, etc. and her, living in “the city” (as Manhattan is known as “the city” to only LI-ers and ppl that live there) not excited about kids ever, just starting her career journey, excited to be young (even though we’re turning 26!) and exploring the city as only an inhabitant can. It’s just funny how with anyone else other than your best friend, these differences might seem insurmountable, but not with her!
You can still reminisce about when we were young – didn’t we call someone “the horse”? and funny voices were developed and perfected long ago – glog. And catch each other up with the last year’s worth of notable events, and plan for the future all in one conversation.
