The shower is coming up next weekend & I'm really excited! I think it'll be a fun family get-together! plus the friends that I get to hang out with! yay!
This past weekend, my mom and I headed out to Cazenovia to meet with the florist (her name is Marlene - she's the owner of Flowers on Main streeet in Caz). Her and I click so well! I brought her examples of the vases that I found (the birch bark vases). My dad is going to cut them all in half sometime this week. also - when i ordered the birch sleeves from ebay the second time (the wider ones) they came with two huge boxes of birch sticks! so - I brought them along to show Marlene thinking that maybe she'd be able to use them (what would I do with them? If i attempted to decorate my house with them, either Kittenpants or Kayla - most likely both as a team - would eat them one by one!) so I brought them with me - when i took them out, her eyes lit up! they'll be perfect for the ceremony arrangements - especially the ones up front since they have to be bigger - the sticks will add some height and drama to it. My mom, was rolling her eyes (bark and sticks? why not just carry a tree down the aisle?). but i think its really going to accomplish the look and feel that we are going for: rustic elegance.
Also - Marlene had some really great ideas for the bouquets (both mine and the girls). I don't want to say too much, but they'll be awesome.
The other thing that I was super excited about - I mentioned to Marlene that we were looking for a cake base (basically a wooden cutting board) but we couldn't find one big enough. so she got all excited & said that Jim Barr (the owner of the Braeloch) -his cousin or nephew makes beautiful wooden cutting boards custom made! so he'll make it from any wood you want, any shape you want. and his prices are really affordable! so we went and checked it out (they had a booth at the saturday farmer's market). they are really nice - plus, we'd be able to keep it after the wedding!
It seems like everything is falling into place! next up on the to-do list: meet with Pastor Allan to talk about the ceremony, then meet with Laurie to share with her my vision for the church decorations.
Aside from that, I'm trying to whittle away at all the little crafty projects (favors, escort cards, menus, ceremony programs, etc), mostly trying to hold all the stress inside so that I stop stressing those around me out AND trying to find something that Jon could do to help me - although he's been really busy and stressed about work and the business...
Plus, I'm cleaning my house for a certain visitor this weekend!!!! I don't want her to think I'm a slob! Jon's helping with that (but don't worry - I'm cleaning the bathroom/kitchen by myself!!!).
Only 40 days until the wedding! the same number of days that it rained in Noah's time! hopefully my ark is strong enough to endure these 40 days and 40 nights! :)
